Synopsis
Cresco (Commercial / Transaction Advisory), DRA (technical) and Allen & Overy (legal) held a breakfast focused on Battery storage – focused on opportunities, legal implications, and technical and financial constraints in this growing sector. The breakfast was well attended with participants across the energy sector – developers, OEMs, and funders.
All parties noted interest in this technology and opportunity but were concerned that recent macro-economic changes in late 2021 / early 2022 had not resulted in the economics being viable for battery storage for large megaflex users. However, loads with higher cost of energy and requiring grid stability – storage solutions were already being implemented across Africa with a number of successes and lessons learnt.
